About the Artist:
Casey Orsini has her Visual Arts degree from Western Connecticut State University. She received her Master’s in Art Therapy and Counseling from Albertus Magnus College. When forging her career path, she wanted to build a bridge between her artistic self and her desire to help others. She has worked with adults with intellectual disabilities and Autism in a studio art space. She has also used art as an intervention to heal and grow in children’s trauma centers.
Casey also experiences Synesthesia; a neurological condition in which one sensory leads to involuntary experiences in a second sensory. Cross-connectivity. Examples vary, but one that is harnessed the most for Casey is “seeing” music as color when heard.
Artist Statement:
I have found that using an art therapy approach and embracing my Synesthesia has helped me open up in a whole new way of painting, going to the canvas without a plan, but rather emotion and song. While listening to music, I can “hear” colors, and experience multiple senses at one time. On a day to day, this can feel challenging; but when painting, this feels like a beautiful reality in which time has stopped.
